When you think of Company culture you may not immediately consider the impact it has on Project Management, but with any shared projects or tasks, company culture is essentially the glue that binds it all.

So, this year, I would like to celebrate those periods of progress without the big bang of a major milestone. Those stages of hard graft with incremental progress. Those smaller steps we take that we often forget to acknowledge and reward

Tasks that are shared, with a cascading timeline requiring contributions of many and in a particular order, requires collaboration on a larger scale and contributors to understand a little of the bigger picture.

Many hands do make light work, but lots of hands means a lot of changes, updates and movement in your project Board as it progresses. Helping each team member find their tasks is equally as important as making sure no task is left behind, and with so much data, the key is organisation and accountability.

If you are managing a help desk, support tickets or even a sales pipeline, you may find yourself in a project Board with no clear end date set. It can be continuously added to, daily, and last for a year or more. New tasks come in, tasks are reprioritised if needed, and moved along the stages to completion. Kanban is also based on the Agile framework, like Scrum, but looks to reduce waste and inefficiency by limiting work in progress whilst also increasing team focus. It is still well suited to projects where goals are not well-defined, or projects where teams are learning as they progress, due to its flexibility to rearrange and reprioritise.

A scrum is a small, yet regular, check-in to realign your team to the goal. Scrum essentially helps alleviate the dangers of never getting around to that small ticket item or technical debt, as well as helping every collaborator know what they should be working on right now.
